Dame Helen Mirren picks up two Golden GlobesThe British picked up scooped 9 gongs at the 64th Golden Globe Awards, held in on 15 January . The awards are often seen as an indicator of likely Oscar wins. Dame Helen Mirren picked up two awards for her portrayals of two British Queens in TV drama “Elizabeth I” and “The Queen”.

Dame Helen, 61, said it was “a fantastic night for British writers and directors and actors”.

There was also success for Sacha Baron Cohen as “Borat” and an award for the second year running for Hugh Laurie in “House” and actors Jeremy Irons, Bill Nighy and Emily Blunt were also recognised. Warren Beatty picked up the Cecil B. DeMille award which recognises the work he has done over his career.
