After spending two days spinning in a gyroscope, illusionist David Blaine finally broke free from his shackles, falling 40ft through a wooden stage only to emerge unscathed.

In an amazing feat of endurance he has completed his latest challenge, after experiencing constant spinning in a gyroscope suspended above the streets of New York for two whole days. As well as the spinning, he has been deprived of sleep, food and water which must have weakened his body, and reduced his senses. None the less, after placing him in secure shackles after the final spin, he somehow managed to find some composure, release himself and fall to freedom.

While Blaine’s challenges get ever more bizarre, there is speculation on what his next challenge will entail. He recently spent a week in a water filled globe, braving the elements and disorientation to emerge unscathed. While he is an illusionist, and there are some aspects of the challenges which are not made public, he has amazing levels of fitness and stamina. He seems to go into a trance like state, blocking out all feeling and thought from what are potentially very dangerous situations.

In a welcome twist to today’s feat, 100 under privileged children will be taken to a well know toy store and be given $500 to spend. Christmas has come early for some children!
