After grabbing a BAFTA earlier this month, Dame Helen picked up the “Best Actress” Oscar, at the 47th Annual Academy Awards, for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in “The Queen”. Having never previously been a fan of royalty, Helen developed a great respect for the Monarch and her work. Radiant in gold, she made a brief acceptance speech.
“For 50 years and more, Elizabeth Windsor has maintained her dignity, her sense of duty and her hairstyle. If it wasn’t for her, I most certainly wouldn’t be here – ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Queen,” she said.”
Hotly-tipped Forest Whittaker picked up the Oscar for best actor for his portrayal of Idi Amin in “The Last King of Scotland”. Often overlooked, Martin Scorsese picked up the best Director award for “The Departed” and was clearly overcome as he asked for the presenter to double-check the envelope.
