In a surprising turn of events the Essex Police have announced that they have re-opened the tragic case of Stuart Lubbock, who was found dead in the swimming pool of the comic Michael Barrymore back in March 2001.
What has prompted this unexpected announcement is yet to be confirmed, but there is speculation that either new evidence has come to light, or the police believe that there has been a miscarriage of justice. While Barrymore has welcomed the news, as he bids to clear his name once and for all, the sad and tortured life of the comedian will again come under the stop light. After initially escaping to New Zealand with his partner, Barrymore is now back in the UK starring in a Christmas musical.
While originally there was evidence of assault on the body of Mr Lubbock, no one was actually charged, Barrymore did however accept a formal caution for drug abuse. Police hope that they will finally be able to bring this whole sorry affair to a close, which would be welcomed by all parties involved – especially Mr Lubbock’s father, who has campaigned rigorously for the police to re-investigate the case.
